I Am Not A Man, Not Now, a collaborative video made with Chelsea Knight, explores Sophocles’ Antigone as both a proto-feminist play, and a misogynistic one. We selected and directed scenes from the play that refer to the roles of women in ancient Greece, roles that are still fully recognizable today. By choosing to silence the protagonist by casting Antigone as the camera, or, by extension, the viewer, the misogynistic language existing around women is heightened. Shooting in part at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the relics from ancient Greece reference the entropy and changed meaning of objects and language through time. Total Running Time 14:26.
