The tableaux take place in a hotel room, to be interpreted conceptually rather than literally, in that the hotel represents a place of anonymity, where one’s perversions and desires can be enacted. The use of the hotel room provides another link between the characters, not only visually, but in the notion of internal strugggle with each character’s own psychological state of mind. There are six characters, each of whom are a link in the chain, having some sort of relationship with two other subjects.
